She is an Italian cell biologist internationally renowned for her studies on the development of the healthy and pathological vascular system. She directs the ‘New strategies to inhibit tumor angiogenesis’ research unit at IFOM, the FIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology in Milan. She is a full professor of Pathology at Uppsala University in Sweden and held a professorship in the same field at the University of Milan from 2002 till 2020.

She ranks 20th among Italy's top scientists in biomedical sciences and is an elected member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. She received the Grand INSERM Award2018 as the only non-French scientist and the Ambrogino d'Oro 2020, an honour from the City of Milan. During her scientific career, she has dedicated considerable effort to improving scientific communication for the general public. She is strongly committed to promoting the careers of young researchers and supporting equal career opportunities for women and men.

Elisabetta Dejana ist eine international renommierte italienische Zellbiologin, die für ihre Forschungen zur Entwicklung des gesunden und pathologischen Ge- fäßsystems bekannt ist. Sie leitet die Forschungsgruppe ‹Neue Strategien zur Hemmung der Tumorangiogenese› am IFOM, dem FIRC-Institut für Molekulare Onkologie in Mailand. Darüber hinaus ist sie Professorin für Pathologie an der Universität Uppsala in Schweden und hatte von 2002 bis 2020 eine Professur für dasselbe Fachgebiet an der Universität Mailand inne. Sie zählt zu den Top 20 der italienischen Wissenschaftler im Bereich Biomedizin und ist gewähltes Mitglied der Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Sie erhielt 2018 den Grand INSERM Award als einzige nicht-französische Wissenschaftlerin. Im Verlauf ihrer wissenschaftlichen Karriere hat sie sich intensiv für die Verbesserung der wissenschaftliche Kommunikation mit der breiten Öfentlichkeit eingesetzt. Darüber hinaus engagiert sie sich stark in der Karriereförderung junger Forschender.

È al ventesimo posto tra i migliori scienziati italiani in scienze biomediche. Dirige l'unità di ricerca che si occupa del sistema vascolare del cancro presso IFOM, l'Istituto FIRC di Oncologia Molecolare di Milano, e inoltre un gruppo di ricerca presso l’Università di Uppsala in Svezia, dove ricopre il ruolo di professoressa ordinaria.

Biologa cellulare di fama internazionale, è riconosciuta per i suoi studi sullo sviluppo del sistema vascolare sano e patologico, focalizzati sulla comprensione della vascolarizzazione dei tumori, al fine di indurne la recessione, e dei cavernomi cerebrali, malformazioni dei vasi sanguigni del cervello. Tra i numerosi riconoscimenti, ha ricevuto il Grand INSERM Award2018 come unica scienziata non francese e l'Ambrogino d'Oro 2020, un'onorificenza del Comune di Milano. È membro eletto dell’Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
